To a Friend

You’ve never really lived
until you’ve wronged someone.

You know not what you do.
The blind perceive differently.
Those who are awake and alert
see differently than those who aren’t.

It’s okay.
I see.
And so I know and understand
what you do not.
And so I forgive
and go to battle for us both.
Stand behind me,
stay with me.
And whatever you do,
don’t
give up.
Trust me.

Chasing Shadows

the homes
the jobs
the cars
the relationships

back and forth
weaving unnecessary
obstacles
distractions

complaining
of busyness
discontentment
but source being self
finds no empathy
only pity

all this nothing
masquerading
as so much something

Abandoned

Outside
the parakeet plays
with a plucked petal

waiting

Inside
dust
visits…
then lingers…
and rests
among fingerprint remnants
upon worn piano keys

waiting

a rusted earring
hangs, snagged
on the tongue
of an old tennis shoe

waiting

Discovery

this breathing
every day
this seeing
every day
this waiting
every day

this living
every day

without you
feels shallow

this sighing
this blurring
this lacking

follows me
like the distant shadow
of the you that doesn’t

“America”

land of the free
home of the brave

grim greetings and spurious smiles
mysterious murky monsters of the mind

buildings burn
slander swirls vehemently
and agendas go awry

esoteric Batman bail-outs
while the bored settlers sleep
and just outside the pigeon plays
with a slimy, scrapped avocado
